Patient safety & machine reliability

Making anesthesia safer

Membrane filtration technology delivers a number of benefits that support the safe and reliable delivery of general anesthesia.

Machine-specific benefits include (i) moisture elimination, (ii) dust elimination, and (iii) reduced general maintenance.

Moisture elimination

Due to the nature of our membrane technology, all machine-side moisture is eliminated from the anesthesia circuit. Patient-side moisture is maintained through the use of a mandatory Heat and Moisture Exchanging Filter (HMEF).

Elimination of machine-side moisture reduces operating and reliability issues related to the function of flow sensors, circuit valves, gas sampling lines and gas concentration sensors leading to increased machine safety and reliability.

Dust elimination & general maintenance

Membrane filtration technology also eliminates any possibility of dust from CO2 chemical absorbent from entering the system, therefore reducing reliability issues with valves and sensors that can lead to machine downtime, increased maintenance requirements, and, in the worst-case scenario, patient safety issues.

Safety

Membrane filtration eliminates the chemical reaction between traditional absorbent material and anesthetic vapors. As a result, any concern related to the creation or build-up of by-products created from the reaction of anesthetic vapors with chemical absorbent materials is eliminated. These by-products can include, formaldehyde, compounds A-G, and carbon monoxide. With memsorb™, CO2 can be removed from the anesthetic circuit without the limitations of chemical absorbers.

See how it works

memsorb™ uses patented advanced medical membrane technology to filter CO2 from anesthetic circuits rather than absorption via a chemical reaction.
